Word Wellness for Care Partners: Writing for Self-Care and Advocacy

Hello! If you are here, you’re interested in participating in a writing workshop specifically designed for care partners. Below you’ll find some information that will be helpful as you decide whether to register or not.

Who this workshop is for…

It was created for care partners and caregivers of people with neurodegenerative conditions by a care partner of a person with Parkinson’s.

As care partners, our days are busy busy busy. It becomes easy, even habitual, to prioritize those we love over ourselves and our own well-being. Self-care isn’t something you need only so you are better able to care for others. You need it because your life is more complicated and more stressful because you spend so much time caring for others.

You deserve the opportunity to maintain your own wellness and the time to cultivate the tools and resources to help you do this. Your stories are important, and here is a safe place to explore them without expectations and with people who understand your joys and challenges.

Good news for those of you who aren’t sure about the whole writing thing: No writing experience is necessary to fully participate. You only need to have access to your preferred writing tools — pen or pencil and paper, a laptop or device with a word processing app, or an audio recording or dictation app. An open mind — aka a “beginner’s mind” — also helps a lot, especially for those of you who do have some writing experience.

This workshop is an opportunity to develop a new way of taking care of yourself. By the end of these eight weeks, you will have a powerful tool to help you relieve stress, find your inner strength when you need it, and access moments of joy even on the most challenging days. You also will have some new skills to help you share your care partner experiences.

What a powerful way to show up for yourself. I look forward to seeing you there!

With gratitude,

Rebecca Gifford
Workshop Facilitator
